Sorry I haven’t had the time to update the site in a while; just because you haven’t seen much published does not mean that I have been idol. I’ve been working on lots of things behind the scenes as well as keeping up on things in the forums. I am working on adding an image gallery and in the next few days the site itself will be getting some more images to spruce things up. I’m trying to get things to the next level by adding features to the site. Right now I’m investigating the possibility of switching site design over to a piece of content management software so I can devote less time to site design and maintenance and more to site content. Stay tuned to this page for more updates, hopefully coming soon.

I’ve added some exciting new features to the site this week.

First is the Fanfic section. You can now upload your A Walk To Remember and related fanfic stories to a section of the site which works a lot like fanfiction dot net. You can post your own and read each other’s stories and post feedback. Your first story post will have to be approved by me, but after that you will be able to add/revise stories at will. Check it out!

Next is the guest book. Please take a moment to sign it and let me know what you think of it!

I’ve also added a tell your friend script for you to use to tell your friends about this site. Please use it to invite all of your like minded friends to visit this site!

Oh, and least I forget the forum has added a few more message boards. Check it out

I’ve also fixed a couple broken links.

That’s all for now. Thanks again for visiting the site!

The transition seems to have been successful and the site is working. The forum has been tested and is working at http://forum.awalktorememberonline.org/ please use that address. The older awalktorememberonline.org/wforum does not work anymore and you may experience some issues if you use awalktorememberonline.org/forum/ I’m not sure.

The site is viewable at awalktorememberonline.com .net and .org (.info coming soon), but the forum only works on .org. Please keep that in mind. More updates/enhancements coming soon.

Boy has it been ages since I’ve updated this site (especially since the last update (below) was never actually uploaded to the server. Thanks to those who have written about updating the site. I hope the wait was worth it.

If you are reading this then the site has finally been moved to it’s new home on the Transwarphosting server. Within a day or so you should be able to see the site at awalktorenenberonline.org, com, net, and info. The correct location of the forum has been moved from awalktorememberonline/wforum to /forum and will be moving to forum.awalktorememberonline.org as soon as the DNS updates.

My apologies for any broken links that you may experience. I’m working on fixing them. Feel free to shoot me an email if you think I’ve missed something.

That’s all for now and thanks again for visiting the site. More to come.

Happy Birthday to us! This site is turning one year old (on the 15’th). In celebration of that event I am planning an extra special upgrade to the site for next weekend! If you check the site regularly, please pay close attention to the following:

THIS WEBSITE WILL BE MOVING TO A DIFFERENT MACHINE some time this week. For most of the site the transition will be seamless. I will have the pages and graphics up on the other machine before I change it over. However, to minimize the possibility of data loss, I will be shutting down the forum just before I change the domain pointing. DON’T WORRY! I will have a copy of the forum database installed on the new server before I shut this one down.

Why am I doing this?

  • More storage space and bandwidth
  • More options for the behind the scenes part of hosting (scripts and things)
  • So I can point awalktorememberonline.com .net and .org to the same site (mandymooreonline.com and .info will also go there)
  • The URL of the forum will be moving from www.awalktorememberonline.org/wforum to forum.awalktorememberonline.org PLEASE UPDATE YOUR LINKS if you have linked directly to the forum.
  • I want all of my sites on the same machine. I will have more control.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause (I know the forums are getting quite popular), but I think it will be better for the overall functionality of the site

This Week’s Updates:

This week I’ve only updated a few things:

  • The main page and the other pages should now all use the same graphic on the top as this one (it’s a .gif. .jpg does not support transparent backgrounds and .png was WAY too big!)
  • Added an archive of old updates (scroll down to the bottom of this page for the link)
  • Added Google Search (bottom of left column of this page). I am hopong this will work out better than the form I had before and hopefully will get more hits from it. You can search the whole web or this site only.

I’m still working on fleshing out the Mandy section, but haven’t uploaded it yet.

Thank you for visting my site and please tell your friends about it.

For this week’s update I have been working on a lot of little things for the site. I’ve added a few more things to the Mandy Moore section. I finally saw “Chasing Liberty” this week and will have a review up soon. I’ve added my review of her current album “Coverage” and made some revisions to her bio.

I’ve also added three new sections. The first is a page about the real Beaufort North Carolina and have included a map to it’s location. The second is an invitation to interview people involved in the making of “A Walk To Remember” and post those interviews. If you know anybody that this applies to, please let them know about it. The third section is a page with a text link and banner to link to this site if you are so inclined. If your site is AWTR related (about the movie, the book, one of the actors, etc.) I will link to you on the main page as well if you drop me a line and tell me you linked to me.

This is just a short update. For the time being I still have the site on my account at Webmasters.com. I had intended to move it but decided to leave it here for testing. I wanted to make sure that the new design of the site was working fine before I moved it to it’s new home.

For this update, I’ve made some additions and revisions to the existing text and have added a section about Mandy Moore. It’s not quite done yet, but I uploaded it so you can see what I have so far. Please give me your suggestions and feedback. I changed the theme on the forum today to match the website. Let me know what you think.

I am still working on a couple final enhancements before I call the redesign done.

  • The Fanfic section will be set up on such a way — using a php script and mySQL database — as to allow users to submit their own fanfic stories. I had this set up on the old site design before but it was buggy. I am working now to stabilize it before making it public.
  • I’m adding a guest book in the near future
  • Mailing lists are moving away from Yahoo
  • New chat alternatives
  • I will be adding several petitions to the site, including one for a Special Edition DVD, a release if the movie score (instrumental background music composed specifically for the movie).

That’s all for now. Keep checking back and I _will_ be implemnting your site suggestions so please send them along.

At the request of the hosting company I am moving the entire site to a different physical machine on their network. This will necessitate a rebuild of the site (server side) from backup files over the next day or two. Please excuse any functionality problems with the site until then. Thanks.

Work on the new site is rapidly progressing. I am still testing some options for online surveys, polling, and an online petition. I also hope to add another option for chat in the next few days.

In the meantime please take advantage of two new features that I have been able to add to the site thanks to my new host.

I have added a fanfic archive similar to the one offered on the fanfiction.net website (except that it does not have as many bells and whistles as their site). Give the developer time. I check her site for updates and will update the script as she posts updates. If you write AWTR fanfic, please submit the story to the archive. Just go to the archive home page, register as an author, and follow the simple instructions.

Another new feature that I have added is a new method of joining mailing lists connected to this site. Thanks to a script called MailGust I am now able to offer several lists through a Yahoogroups style mailing list system. There are several lists to choose from. This is experemental for the time being. If all goes well, I will ditch the old lists on Yahoo! all together. This server is more secure and since I don’t work for some big corporation I won’t sell your personal information like they do (unless you specify not to).

I do ask that when you register for these components that you use the same user information (user name, email, etc) for all of the interactive parts of the site (message boards, email lists, fanfic archive) because at some point I will be looking into consolidating all of these into one membership database and that would be easier if all three had the same info 🙂

I think that’s all for now. Check the site often for more updates.

EDIT: Most of these services are no longer around so I need to recreate them the best I can. Please be patient!

Friday, November 28, 2003

As you can see, the site seems to be up and running with the exception of the aforementioned petition, polls and surveys. I hope to be able to find a way to bring those back soon.

Check out the new chat options and web forum in addition to the old content. You should find a web forum for anything you could possibly think of related to “A  Walk To Remember.” In addition, Mandy Moore and Nicholas Sparks have their own areas. Why not take the opportunity to discuss her movie “How To Deal” (released on DVD this coming week, if I recall) or his new book The Wedding.

Please keep checking the site for enhancements and updates. If you haven’t already, bookmark this page and recommend the site to your friends!
